kool1045fm – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has introduced new rule to better manage the state’s mountain lion population.
These rules took effect at the start of the new hunting license cycle on Sunday, Sept. 1, following some protections that were implemented in May.
Commissioners unanimously voted to ban canned hunting of mountain lions and set a 36-hour limit on holding live mountain lions in traps. Canned hunting involves capturing a lion and releasing it into an enclosed area for trophy hunting.
With these changes, Texas joins 16 other states in regulating the hunting and trapping of mountain lions. Violating these new rules is classified as a Class C misdemeanor, which can result in a $500 fine but no jail time.
