Las Cruces Police arrested a Truth or Consequences man suspected of deliberately ramming his pickup into at least three other vehicles – and nearly striking a security guard – in the parking lot of a popular hotel early this morning.
Shortly after 2 a.m. this morning, police were dispatched to the report of a man with a gun at the Hotel Encanto on Telshor Boulevard. Police say the man, later identified as Dale Iacofano, 55, of T or C, became irate when the hotel had no vacancies. Hotel security asked the man to leave.
Shortly later, a hotel security guard was in his car in the parking lot when he recognized the man driving a Blue Toyota Tundra toward him. As the guard exited his car to approach Iacofano, police say the Tundra accelerated and nearly struck the guard, hitting the vehicle as it sped past him. Police allege that Iacofano then yelled at the guard, threatening to use a handgun on the guard.
Witnesses told police the truck left the parking lot but quickly returned and struck two more vehicles in the parking lot. Police say Iacofano actively resisted LCPD officers as he was arrested. Police subsequently located a firearm in Iacofano’s pickup, but it was not used during the incident.
Iacofano is charged with a third-degree felony count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and fourth-degree felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal damage to property. He also faces two misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of an accident and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
Iacofano was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
