Authorities said that when the suspect was arrested after the discovery of a woman’s body in a suitcase on Long Island, he was found to have date rape drugs and other illegal substances.
When Schroeder was arrested on an outstanding warrant, he was found in possession of drugs. This incident adds to the charges he already faces for concealing a human corpse, ABC7 reported.
According to authorities, Jones, who was reported missing by her family on August 16, was captured on surveillance video walking through the Huntington Station building.
The police are still investigating the length of time the case was in the wooded area before it was discovered.
The exact duration of Jones’ death before the horrifying discovery was not immediately evident.
According to her family, the victim was facing homelessness and mental health challenges at the time of her disappearance. She leaves behind a 4-year-old son.
Shasia Correnthi, the sister of the victim, expressed her anguish over the tragic incident. She emphasized that while they were unable to assist her sister in managing her mental illness, it in no way justified the heinous act committed against her. Shasia condemned the perpetrator for callously disposing of her sister’s body, likening her treatment to that of an insignificant object.
According to his lawyer, he chose not to appear in person for his arraignment on Saturday due to illness.
The suspect is expected to return to court on Thursday.
