Rhode Island State Police have made an announcement stating that a man who allegedly hit a construction worker in Stonington has been arrested on Tuesday for driving under the influence.
State police have reported that Julio Macancela, a 46-year-old, was apprehended in Hopkinton following a vehicle stop on I-95.
Connecticut State Police received a report of a vehicle striking a construction worker on I-95 north in Stonington at approximately 6:32 p.m.
Officials said that during the investigation, it was discovered that a GMC Sierra had been operating in the left lane, which had been closed for a construction project.
According to troopers, the vehicle hit a construction worker from behind, resulting in minor injuries to the individual.
According to state police, the suspect vehicle fled the scene before their arrival.
Macancela was issued a BOLO, which ultimately led to the vehicle stop in Rhode Island.
Rhode Island authorities have reported that Macancela was taken into custody for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs. This marks his second offense, with a blood alcohol concentration (B.A.C) of .15 or greater. He was held overnight and is awaiting an arraignment.
Connecticut State Police have issued a warrant for Macancela’s involvement in the crash.
