Some Las Cruces Firefighters Want COVID-19 Vaxx to be Voluntary

Some firefighters in Las Cruces want the COVID-19 vaccine to be voluntary. Doña Ana County Professional Firefighters Association president Travis Simpson says getting vaccinated should be a person’s choice as is the case with any other personal health situation. The county recently made it mandatory for paid first responders to get vaccinated as a condition for employment. Volunteer firefighters aren’t under the same requirement. County Manager Fernando Macias claims it’s a firefighter’s obligation as a county employee to get vaccinated as part of a first responder’s mission to take care of the health of members of the public.
