Privacy Violation at Sea

A Royal Caribbean cruise employee’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the industry after allegations surfaced of appalling misconduct.

Mirasol, whose duties included cabin cleaning and maintenance, was detained on the ship until it docked at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on March 3rd. Following the docking, authorities including Homeland Security Investigations, Customs and Border Protection, and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office launched a thorough investigation.

Electronic devices belonging to Mirasol, including his phone, SD card, camera, and USB stick, were seized and examined. The examination unearthed disturbing evidence, including “numerous videos of naked females undressing” and instances of child pornography. Shockingly, one video depicted Mirasol himself installing a camera in a guest room’s bathroom.

Shocking Confessions of Royal Caribbean Employee

During questioning, Mirasol admitted to his reprehensible actions. He confessed to placing cameras in bathrooms since December 2023, deriving pleasure from viewing footage captured by the hidden cameras. Additionally, Mirasol confessed to unlawfully entering guest rooms while passengers were showering, clandestinely recording them naked with his phone.

In the wake of these disturbing revelations, Mirasol faces a litany of charges, including six counts of voyeurism in Broward County and charges related to the production and possession of child pornography in the U.S. District Court of Florida.

Royal Caribbean swiftly responded to the incident, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards such egregious behavior. The company promptly reported the matter to law enforcement authorities, terminated Mirasol’s employment, and pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

As the legal proceedings unfold, this shocking incident underscores the critical importance of ensuring the safety and security of cruise ship passengers. It serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and accountability within the industry to prevent such egregious violations of privacy and decency from occurring in the future.
