NMSU Campus Crime Rate Spikes

A new report reveals a spike in violent crimes reported on the New Mexico State campus.

The NMSU Annual Security Report for 2019 released last week says there have been four times as many reports of rapes in 2018 compared to 2017 on campus. Drug cases and alcohol violations also increased in the same period. NMSU Police Chief Stephen Lopez says the increase in students’ feeling confident with law enforcement to report such incidents should be factored into the analysis of the numbers. Chief Lopez says there is no doubt some crimes go unreported and he encourages all victims to come forward.
