A man from New York is now facing nine charges following an incident in Portland, Maine, where he allegedly attacked a police officer after fleeing from a traffic stop. The suspect, Francis Olukogbon, 36, of Uniondale, was initially pulled over by officers for failing to stop at several blinking red lights at around 2:30 a.m. on Monday. Despite the officer activating the lights and siren on their cruiser, Olukogbon’s vehicle continued to pull away.
Eventually, Olukogbon stopped his car on Everett Street and became combative with the officers before fleeing on foot. After a brief chase, Olukogbon was arrested with significant resistance and taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
During the arrest, police discovered that he was in possession of 2.34 grams of cocaine and 0.62 grams of methamphetamine. Initially, Olukogbon was only going to be charged with driving to endanger and failing to stop for an officer, but now he also faces additional charges including assault on an officer, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, unlawful trafficking and possession of scheduled drugs, and falsifying physical evidence. The Portland Police Department is urging anyone with information related to this case to contact them at 207-874-8575 or to text the keyword “PPDME” along with their message to 847411.
