The Federal Aviation Administration has allocated $33,494,691 in taxpayer funds to New Mexico for airport upgrades across the state.
The federal funding for the construction of a new 21,000-square-foot terminal at the Clovis Regional Airport and the reconstruction of a taxiway at Raton Municipal Airport comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-New Mexico, highlighted that this funding includes $15.7 million for the terminal and nearly $2.5 million for the taxiway, as stated in a press release.
In February, the state received $3.5 million in funding from the FAA under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This funding was allocated to the creation of a new terminal at the Clovis Regional Airport.
According to Heinrich, investing in New Mexico’s airports means investing in the people who depend on these facilities for their businesses, job creation, and economic contribution to the state. Heinrich expressed pride in the funding received from the Infrastructure Law, which will be used to construct the new terminal at Clovis Regional Airport and enhance airports throughout New Mexico. He remains committed to securing investments to modernize terminals, enhance travelers’ experiences, and drive the state’s economic growth in the future.
U.S. Senator Ben Ray Lujan, a Democrat from New Mexico, has expressed his commitment to continuing his advocacy for increased funding for infrastructure in the state.
New Mexico is set to benefit greatly from the implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. According to Lujan, this law is not only providing millions of dollars but also generating employment opportunities throughout the state. With a substantial amount of over $33 million allocated to improving the airports in New Mexico, this funding will play a crucial role in bridging communities, promoting tourism and travel, and ultimately bolstering local economies. Lujan expresses his satisfaction in welcoming this funding, while also reaffirming his commitment to securing further investments for the betterment of New Mexico’s communities.
According to U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernandez, a Democrat from New Mexico, the allocated funding will have a positive impact on the state’s economy.
“When we make investments in critical infrastructure, we are making a direct investment in the future of New Mexico,” expressed Leger Fernandez. “The upgrades to these airports, spanning across my entire district, will not only generate employment opportunities but also provide support to local businesses and enhance the connectivity between our communities. This is the exact type of investment that I had in mind when I cast my vote in favor of the Infrastructure Law.”
Furthermore, Representative Melanie Stansbury, a Democrat from New Mexico, emphasized the significance of the airport funding in maintaining strong connections among people.
“I’m incredibly excited that New Mexico’s airports will be receiving the necessary infrastructure upgrades, all thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed by the Biden-Harris Administration,” expressed Stansbury. “Airports play a vital role in bringing trade, economic opportunities, and uniting families and friends. It is crucial that we continue investing in infrastructure to ensure that these opportunities are accessible to the people of New Mexico.”
Additionally, the funding has a particular focus on benefiting the rural population of New Mexico, according to U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez, D-New Mexico.
