Officials confirmed that a tragic incident occurred on Monday night in West Nashville, resulting in the loss of five lives as a small aircraft crashed along Interstate 40.

Aaron further disclosed that the aircraft was traveling from the north to the south and ultimately landed in a grassy median along I-40, located just behind the Costco store on Charlotte Pike.

Fortunately, the crash did not result in any damage to nearby buildings or vehicles.

Shortly after midnight, the Metro police announced via Twitter that all five occupants of the plane perished in the crash.

The ownership of the aircraft remains undisclosed, although it was officially registered in July.

Upon arrival at the crash site, firefighters encountered intense flames, yet managed to suppress the fire and safeguard evidence crucial for the ongoing investigation.

According to Aaron, the control tower at John C. Tune Airport received communication from the aircraft, indicating engine failure and the need for an emergency landing.

Subsequently, the pilot radioed to report the inability to reach the airport before the plane ultimately crashed.

Upon receiving multiple reports of the crash, personnel from the Nashville Fire Department promptly responded to the scene.

Officials confirmed that upon impact, the plane ignited into flames.

Authorities stated that no vehicles on the interstate were affected, and the aircraft did not collide with any structures during its descent.
