March Social Security Payments Confirmed: New Mailing Dates for SSDI, SSI, and Retirement Checks

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has officially confirmed the schedule of all Social Security payments for beneficiaries and retirees enrolled in their financial assistance programs.

As the month of March commenced, disbursement of this month’s payments commenced last Friday, with checks totaling $5,816 being dispatched to eligible recipients nationwide.

Social Security provides support through two main programs: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI).

These programs target individuals with disabilities, retirees aged 65 and above, and survivors of deceased claimants. Projections suggest that around 68 million Americans will benefit from these programs in 2024.

Under OASDI, benefits are calculated based on factors like work history, tax contributions, disability status, and spousal earnings.

Eligibility requires being visually impaired or disabled, aged 65 or older, having minimal resources, and earning limited income.

Social Security Payment Schedule

An elderly couple walk under flowering cherry trees at the so-called Cherry blossom alley, in Teltow, just outside Berlin on May 4, 2023. – Cherry blossom alley, a 1,5 km long stretch of the former Berlin wall (1961-1989) planted with over 1.000 cherry trees, came into existence after a Japanese TV channel initiated a fund-raising campaign in 1990 which yielded around one million euros, and used the cash to plant thousands of trees in Berlin.

Besides the widely recognized retirement benefits program, the Social Security Administration (SSA) oversees various other financial aid initiatives for American citizens, including Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Here, you will find comprehensive details regarding all confirmed Social Security payments for the current month.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and retirement benefits for individuals born before May 1997 are consistently disbursed on the first of each month.

This payment schedule also extends to Social Security recipients residing abroad.

For retirement and SSDI benefits, the payment dates are determined by the beneficiary’s birthdate:

  • March 13th: Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the month will receive their payments on the 2nd Wednesday of March.
  • March 20th: Beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of the month will receive their payments on the 3rd Wednesday of March.
  • March 27th: Beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of the month will receive their payments on the 4th Wednesday of March.

Social Security Boost: 3.2% COLA in 2024

In 2024, all Social Security recipients received a 3.2 percent cost of living adjustment (COLA) to mitigate the impact of inflation on their benefits.

This resulted in an average $50 increase in monthly payments.

The amount of Social Security payments is influenced by various factors, including the choice to delay retirement and the beneficiary’s contributions to Social Security, determined by their years of employment.

For example, individuals retiring at age 62 receive $2,710 per month, while those retiring at the full retirement age of 67 receive an average of $3,822.

Following a significant increase in payments last year due to an 8.7 percent COLA in 2023, many seniors have expressed doubts about this year’s 3.2 percent COLA.
