Honda Targets Select Accords and HR-Vs for Seat Belt Pretensioner Issue

Honda is issuing a recall notice for specific 2023-2024 Accord and HR-V models due to the front seat belt pretensioners failing to contain a critical component. A car accident may result in a higher probability of injuries due to this deficiency.

The issue with the pretensioners, which are tasked with fastening seat belts when impact occurs, has been identified by Honda and the NHTSA as a consequence of a missing rivet that normally fastens the rapid connector and wire plate. Inadequate occupant restraint may result from this deficiency in the event of an accident.

The NHTSA has identified an assembly error as the underlying cause of this issue, which has the potential to affect more than 300,000 Accord and HR-V vehicles.

Honda had been the recipient of seven warranty claims pertaining to this matter as of November 16. Nevertheless, according to documents disclosed by the NHTSA, no fatalities or injuries have been attributed to the malfunctioning pretensioners.

Honda is issuing a recall notice for specific 2023-2024 Accord and HR-V models due to the front seat belt pretensioners failing to contain a critical component.

Authorized Honda dealers will perform comprehensive inspections of all vehicles involved in this recall and, if required, substitute the seat belt pretensioner assembly at no cost to the affected parties. Those who have previously financed these repairs with their own funds may be eligible for reimbursement as well.

Honda provides an estimate that fewer than 1% of the vehicles that may be impacted by this matter will require a replacement. The majority of them, according to a Honda spokesperson, ought to be sufficiently remedied via inspection.

Notification letters will be dispatched to registered proprietors of the impacted vehicles through postal mail, commencing on January 8, 2024. Although replacement parts are anticipated to be available at dealerships by the conclusion of that month, in the interim, customers may choose to have their vehicles inspected at an authorized Honda dealer.

Consumers may access Honda’s online recall resources and the NHTSA website for further details regarding the recall.
