Former YouTuber Ruby Franke Sentenced to Consecutive Prison Terms for Child Abuse Charges

Ruby Franke, a 42-year-old mother and prominent web personality, received a sentencing of four consecutive terms, each ranging from one to 15 years, for her involvement in four counts of aggravated child abuse. The charges stem from her disturbing actions, which she previously pleaded guilty to last year.

During the sentencing, Franke, who gained popularity through her now-deleted YouTube channel “8 Passengers,” where she documented family life, acknowledged the severity of her charges. She expressed a belief in the justice of her sentencing, stating that it ensures the safety of her family, holds her accountable to the public, and acknowledges the mercy shown to her.

The arrest of Franke occurred in August after her 12-year-old son sought refuge with a neighbor, prompting a call to the police. The charges initially amounted to six counts, but as part of a plea deal, Franke pleaded guilty to four counts and agreed to testify against her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, who faced similar charges of aggravated child abuse. Hildebrandt also entered into a plea agreement.

The court documents revealed harrowing details of the abuse, including the denial of food and water to Franke’s children, physically assaulting her son while wearing boots, and deliberately depriving him of oxygen. Franke justified these actions to her children as necessary punishments for obedience and repentance.

In a remorseful statement, Franke acknowledged her descent into a distorted reality over the past four years, attributing it to following misguided counsel and isolating herself from dissenting voices. She confessed to the court that her skewed perception went largely unchallenged as she distanced herself from anyone who questioned her actions.

Jodi Hildebrandt, Franke’s business partner, faced a similar fate in court and received identical sentences. Both individuals have been granted a 30-day window to file an appeal, as stated by the presiding judge.

Hildebrandt addressed the court, explaining her decision not to go to trial, expressing concern for the emotional well-being of the children involved. She expressed hope for their healing and urged them to move forward towards a future marked by beauty and recovery
