Boulder Residents Anticipate as Food Tax Rebate Applications Set to Open on March 1

Residents of Boulder with lower incomes can apply for a food tax rebate on March 1 in order to recover a portion of the sales tax they have paid on food purchases.

This year’s refunds are $280 for families and $92 for persons. According to the announcement, the purpose of the 1967-launched food tax refund program is to relieve lower-income citizens of the financial strain associated with paying local sales tax on food goods.

Candidates must fill out an application, satisfy the requirements for financial assistance, and have resided in Boulder for the whole year 2021 in order to be eligible.

In addition, candidates must be 62 years of age or older, a person with a handicap, or a family with children under the age of eighteen living in the same home for the entirety of 2021.

According to the release, Boulder residents who do not have a permanent place to live can still be eligible and fulfill the residence criteria by presenting proof that they are getting assistance from a homelessness services organization approved by the city.

By June 30th, applications must be received or stamped. An application will be sent to those who applied in 2021 automatically.
