A Friday night party at a house in the 100 block of Bluestem in Berino ended when one man was arrested and another was sent to an El Paso-area hospital with a serious stab wound to his neck.
Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Dropseed just before 10 p.m. Friday. Witnesses who had been at the party on Bluestem said Hector Ochoa, 21, was hiding at the residence on Dropseed, and that he reportedly had been in a fight with another man at the party.
Deputies obtained permission from the homeowner on Dropseed to do a search for Ochoa, who was found a short time later hiding in the attic space of the home. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Department for questioning.
Meanwhile, sheriff’s detectives interviewed the victim at University Medical Center in El Paso. The victim had reportedly suffered a severe laceration to the neck. The victim said he had been in an argument with Ochoa and felt blunt force to the back of his neck but didn’t realize he had been stabbed until onlookers separated the fight and told him he was bleeding.
According to detectives, Ochoa allegedly used his car keys to stab the victim in the neck.
Ochoa was transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond. He faces one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony, and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
