Air Canada Ranks Lowest in Punctuality Among Major North American Airlines

Air Canada, the largest carrier in Canada, faced a setback as it recorded the poorest on-time performance among large airlines in North America throughout 2023, as outlined in a report from Cirium, the renowned aviation analytics company.

According to the data, Air Canada had an on-time landing rate of only 63% out of its 276,451 flights last year, which placed it at the bottom among the top 10 airlines on the continent.

According to the data, around 140,000 flights experienced delays of more than 15 minutes beyond their scheduled arrival time.

Delta Air Lines has emerged as the leading airline in North America in terms of punctuality, boasting an impressive on-time performance rate of 85% for its extensive fleet of over 1.6 million flights.

Coming in at a close second, Alaska Airlines has achieved an impressive 82% on-time record out of its 404,925 flights.

WestJet, another major player in Canada’s aviation sector, landed in the seventh spot among North America’s largest airlines, registering a 69% on-time performance for its 182,296 flights.

Air Canada, the largest carrier in Canada, faced a setback as it recorded the poorest on-time performance among large airlines in North America throughout 2023, as outlined in a report from Cirium, the renowned aviation analytics company.

Air Canada has been facing difficulties in meeting its on-time performance targets.

These challenges have been linked to various factors, including a shortage of air traffic controllers, unfavorable weather conditions, and a network operating at maximum capacity due to high demand.

The CEO, Michael Rousseau, acknowledged the airline’s lower ranking, especially after a series of flight delays in June and July.

During an analyst conference call in August, Rousseau admitted that Air Canada did not meet the expected levels, despite their efforts to improve operational efficiency with increased staffing and technology upgrades.

The airline is still facing challenges in its operations as it works to address concerns and enhance its position in the highly competitive aviation industry.
