Adan Canto, Actor in ‘X-Men’ Passes Away at Age 42

Adan Canto, the multifaceted Mexican artist recognized for his roles in various films and TV series including “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “The Cleaning Lady,” passed away at the age of 42. Jennifer Allen, his publicist, disclosed that Canto succumbed to appendiceal cancer, a condition he had chosen to keep private.

In a heartfelt statement, Allen expressed how Canto’s profound spirit had a transformative impact on those who had the privilege to experience it. She conveyed his deeply felt absence, resonating with many who cherished him.

Hailing from Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, and raised in Texas, Canto embarked on his career at 16, initially venturing into the music realm as a singer-songwriter, before transitioning to acting. 

His television debut occurred on the 2009 Mexican series “Estado de Gracia.” His entry into American television arrived later, with a role in Kevin Williamson’s 2013 Fox drama series “The Following,” starring Kevin Bacon.

His repertoire spanned various significant portrayals, including Vice President-elect Aaron Shore in “Designated Survivor,” Colombian politician Rodrigo Lara Bonilla in “Narcos,” and the mutant Sunspot in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Additionally, he starred in Halle Berry’s directorial debut, “Bruised,” and the film “Agent Game.”

Alongside his acting endeavors, Canto ventured into directing, creating two short films – one in 2014 and another in 2020, a daring western featuring Theo Rossi.

Adan Canto, an integral part of Fox’s “The Cleaning Lady,” was unable to continue due to his ailment, yet he had anticipated rejoining the production later in the season before his passing.

Described by friends as having a warm smile and a contagious laugh, Canto was known for his sensitivity and humility, characteristics that coexisted with his stature and leading man’s appearance.

Kiefer Sutherland, his co-star from “Designated Survivor,” shared a touching tribute on Instagram, mourning Canto’s loss and acknowledging his exceptional talent, dedication, and admirable quest for improvement as an actor.

Canto leaves behind his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two young children, Roman Alder, 3, and Eve Josephine, 18 months.
