Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is a thriving hub for LGBTQ+ tourism, generating billions of dollars in revenue. And now, it seems these lucrative opportunities are open to all.
Connecticut is actively positioning itself as a thriving LGBTQ+ tourism hub, especially in light of the recent controversy surrounding Florida’s decision to remove its LGBTQ+ visitors page from its official tourism website.
Anthony Anthony, who serves as the Chief Marketing Officer for the State of Connecticut, views this as an opportunity to provide a more inclusive option.
Anthony expressed his realization that it was a unique opportunity for Connecticut to stand tall and stand proud.
Connecticut has taken proactive measures to attract LGBTQ+ travelers by improving its website and positioning itself as a friendly and inclusive destination for both tourists and professionals.
“We want to ensure that they understand this is their home,” Anthony emphasized. “They have the opportunity to relax and enjoy a vacation here, as well as build their careers.”
Organizations like Visit Lauderdale in Fort Lauderdale have increased their efforts to attract the LGBTQ+ community since Visit Florida, the state’s tourism agency, removed its dedicated page. They are now sponsoring out-of-state events like the Provincetown Carnival in Massachusetts.
Anthony expressed his enthusiasm for the significant benefits that this brings to Connecticut.
Connecticut’s message of inclusivity has the potential to drive economic growth in a time when state tourism dollars are becoming more competitive, according to Anthony.
“It really highlights the inclusivity of the state,” he remarked, emphasizing, “In this state, we have a free market economy.”
Stacy Ritter, President and CEO of Visit Lauderdale, expressed the enduring inclusivity of Greater Fort Lauderdale by stating, “Our doors are open, and we invite everyone to explore our beautiful destination and be part of our diverse and inclusive culture.”
Ritter emphasized the commitment to providing a welcoming experience for all travelers, including the LGBTQ+ community, reaffirming that Greater Fort Lauderdale is a place where everyone is welcome.
