A personal assistant found guilty of killing and dismembering former tech entrepreneur boss who stole approximately $400,000 from him was sentenced on Tuesday to 40 years to life in prison, according to Manhattan’s district attorney.
Tyrese Haspil, a 25-year-old man, was convicted in June for the murder, grand larceny, and other charges related to the death of his ex-employer, Fahim Saleh, in 2020.
Haspil was hired by Saleh as an assistant for his various ventures, including a ride-hailing motorcycle start-up in Nigeria. However, instead of fulfilling his role, Haspil started embezzling money from Saleh’s businesses. Despite resigning a year later, Haspil continued to steal money even after Saleh uncovered the theft. To avoid facing criminal charges, Haspil agreed to repay Saleh over a period of two years.
