On September 3rd, a man, aged 45, fell victim to a horrifying knife attack in East Village. His face and neck were slashed with a knife, making this incident one of the most recent acts of violence in the area.
The victim was initially reported to have been attacked outside 420 E. 14th St., close to Ave. A, where a triple knife slashing incident occurred in late June. However, the police later clarified that the victim was actually stabbed on East 5th St. around 11:30 p.m. and managed to make his way to East 14th St., where EMS then transported him to Bellevue Hospital.
The area of the East Village between First Ave. and Ave. “A” on E. 14th Street has gained notoriety as a trouble spot. On June 24, a violent incident occurred in this area, resulting in a triple stabbing. Tragically, a 38-year-old man lost his life, while his 51-year-old wife and another man were injured. According to the police, the altercation was drug-related.
Just a few weeks after that incident, another slashing occurred near the Astor Place cube on June 6.
Angel Sardina and Rafael Macias, both 63, were arrested by the police several days after the shooting incident. They have been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.
According to early reports, the 45-year-old victim was initially slashed outside a condo apartment building in the East Village. However, he somehow managed to make his way to 420 E. 14th St. after the attack.
According to a police spokesperson from the Our Town Downtown publication, law enforcement officers were called to respond to an assault at 420 East 14 Street after receiving a 911 call. Upon conducting a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the incident took place across the street from 753 East 5 Street.
The suspect involved in the incident is still on the run. When asked about the injured victim’s movement from E. 5th St. to E. 14th St., the police did not respond.
According to a police spokesperson, the investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made.
